In Fall 2016, I took a class called "Internet of Trees" taught by Tellart, a design firm that tells stories through interactive environments. We were challenged to build a digital sensor, collect data, and transform data into compelling narratives.
Will tracking how often and when I throw things away help me reduce waste?
After exploring the the wide world of Arduino compatible sensors, I decided to use a door sensor to track how many times a day I throw something away. This sensor was connected to a google spreadsheet via IFTTT which logged every time I opened my under the sink cabinet.
I realized that I had a lot of room for improvement in household waste and thought this approach might help me change my behavior.
