IBM Watson Health Imaging

Title

Design Research Lead

From

June 2018–Jan 2022

Location

I conducted generative user research for AI applications in medical imaging. Project experience included a post-processing image analytics, NLP summarization of medical records, a platform to consolidate AI adoption, and a next gen PACS platform. While Watson Health no longer exists as an intact division of IBM, my time there exposed me to AI’s potential for democratizing access to diagnostic expertise and unburdening healthcare systems from the unmageable volume of medical imaging studies.

IBM Watson Imaging Patient Synopsis is a radiologist-trained artificial intelligence (AI) tool. It helps to efficiently inform clinical care decisions by extracting patient data from electronic health records (EHR). It projects the information via a single-view summary in sync with picture archiving and communication systems (PACS).

In seconds, Patient Synopsis provides a summary view of information, in context to the patient, so radiologists can uncover relevant underlying issues. Patient Synopsis is designed to help construct more tailored, specific and concise reports to better inform diagnostic decisions made by radiologists.
